In 2023, Shanxi Province has successively applied for three national level major ecological protection and restoration projects, and currently, these three projects have been started and implemented.
The three national level major ecological protection and restoration projects declared by Shanxi Province are: the integrated protection and restoration project of mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes, grasslands, and sand in the Lvliang Shanxi foothills of the Yellow River Key Ecological Area in Shanxi Province, the ecological restoration demonstration project of historical abandoned mines in the Linfen Shanxi Linfen Key Ecological Area of the Yellow River, and the ecological restoration demonstration project of historical abandoned mines in the Lingqiu section of the Beijing Tianjin Hebei Water Source Conservation Area on the northern edge of the Taihang Mountains in Shanxi Province. At present, they have successfully passed the competitive review and received support from the central government of 2.6 billion yuan.
The total investment of the Lvliang Shanxi Lushan project is 5.508 billion yuan, with a focus on solving the soil erosion problem of 8 main streams entering the Yellow River and over a thousand tributaries of gullies in Shanxi Province. It involves 14 counties (cities, districts) in 3 cities, including Lvliang, Linfen, and Yuncheng. The ecological problems within the 20700 square kilometer project area have been effectively addressed, and the annual average sediment input into the Yellow River can be reduced by about 20 million tons, ensuring that the water quality entering the Yellow River is stable at Class III or above, Collaborate to promote the "One Hong Clear Water Entering the Yellow River" project in Shanxi Province.
The total investment of two mining demonstration projects is 1.162 billion yuan, which can complete the treatment of 483 historical mining sites in 12 counties and 2 cities of Linfen and Datong. The treatment area is 32.7 square kilometers, effectively eliminating geological environmental hazards in mines in the region, significantly improving the ecological function of the water source conservation area at the source of the Daqing River in North China, especially in Xiong'an New Area, and collaborating to build the ecological safety barrier of the Yellow River and Haihe River basins.
