China's assistance in building the Tanzania Zambia Railway not only helped build this major transportation artery in Africa, but also cultivated a group of technically skilled "iron armies", building a bridge for friendly cooperation between China and Africa.
The Tanzania Zambia Railway is a major transportation artery that connects East Africa and Central South Africa. It starts from Dar es Salaam in Tanzania in the east and ends at Kapirimposhi in central Zambia in the west, with a total length of 1860.5 kilometers, including approximately 960 kilometers in Tanzania and 884 kilometers in Zambia.
This project is one of the largest complete sets of foreign aid projects in China to date. It was organized, designed, and constructed by the Foreign Aid Office of the Ministry of Railways, the predecessor of China Civil Engineering Group Co., Ltd., on behalf of the Chinese government.
