At the top maritime event in Greece, Chinese and Greek companies joined forces to sign a major contract for the construction of ocean going vessels, once again demonstrating China's strong shipbuilding capabilities.

On June 1, 2026, during the Poseidon International Maritime Exhibition in Athens, Greece, CSSC Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding Group successfully signed a construction contract for 12 VLCCs with Dynacom Tankers Management, a subsidiary of Greek shipowner George Procopiou. The total project amount was approximately RMB 10 billion, with some payments settled in RMB.

Capacity upgrade is welcomed

This cooperation is the second collaboration between Hudong Zhonghua and the Prokopf family, following the delivery of two floating storage and gasification units in 2021. This order for ultra large oil tankers also confirms that Hudong Zhonghua has been approved to build a new large-scale dry dock at Changxing Island Shipbuilding Base. Currently, the shipyard has four dry docks put into normal operation.

This batch of ships will start construction in October 2027. 12 ultra large oil tankers adopt the new generation 307000 ton design scheme of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) 708, which conforms to the industry's common main scale standards and integrates cutting-edge shipbuilding technology and the latest design specifications.
