According to the latest data from the Ministry of Transport, the current number of heavy trucks in China is about 8.6 million, and the energy consumption structure is gradually shifting from diesel dominance to a diversified coexistence and the rise of new energy. From January 2025 to May 2026, a total of 337000 new energy heavy-duty trucks were sold nationwide, with a market penetration rate exceeding 29.5%.

During the 15th Five Year Plan period, the Ministry of Transport will improve the network layout of energy replenishment facilities, accelerate the construction of zero carbon highway transportation channels, guide highway companies, power enterprises, and other companies to deepen collaborative linkage, take the lead in carrying out pilot demonstrations on key routes, gradually promote the networking of energy replenishment facilities on trunk highways, and accelerate the integration and development of energy replenishment networks and power grids.

In addition, the Ministry of Transport will organize and carry out a special pilot project for the large-scale application of new energy heavy trucks to build a strong transportation country, supporting various regions to take the lead in the construction of energy replenishment facilities, integration of photovoltaic storage, charging and discharging, and direct connection of green electricity. Promote the establishment of a road vehicle transportation energy industry alliance among highway operation enterprises, new energy heavy-duty truck production enterprises, energy supplement facility construction and operation enterprises, logistics enterprises, energy enterprises, etc., forming a multi departmental and multi subject linkage promotion mechanism.
