The Chilean Ministry of State Assets announced that it will launch bidding for 32 plots in the Northern Region in the second half of 2026, with a total area of over 21000 hectares, all of which will be used for renewable energy project development. Among them, the Tartar region has become a key area for wind power development due to its abundant wind energy resources, while Tocopia has attracted much attention for its photovoltaic potential.
Along with the 117 projects already concentrated in the Antofagasta region, Chile is accelerating the transformation of northern desert land into green energy and digital economic infrastructure.

Northern land unleashes enormous installation potential
At present, 236 state-owned land use contracts have come into effect nationwide, contributing approximately 62 billion pesos annually to the government and driving private investment of about 15 billion US dollars. Another 164 contracts are currently being processed.
The total installed capacity of the projects under research and construction is 19.9 GW, with an investment of 11.2 billion US dollars. The total installed capacity related to state-owned land has exceeded 29 GW, and the total executed and planned investment has reached 26 billion US dollars.
In the first half of 2026, multiple wind and photovoltaic projects have entered the construction phase, and the northern region is becoming a key growth pole on the Latin American clean energy map.

State owned land anchors the future of digital economy
In addition to energy projects, the Ministry of State owned Assets is processing at least 10 land concession applications for data centers, all located in the Antofagasta region, with the largest project investing over 3 billion US dollars. Minister of State Assets Katarina Parrot stated that the first state-owned land concession for data centers will soon be granted, with the aim of using Chilean land for future economic development.
