The Hainan 500 kV ring network project is a key energy construction project in the "14th Five-Year Plan" of Hainan Province. It mainly includes the construction of 3 new substations and the second phase of the double-circuit nuclear power transmission line. The new 500 kV line around the island is about 840 kilometers. The total investment of the project is about 5.3 billion yuan, which is the largest power transmission and transformation project in Hainan Province so far. After the completion of the project, it will initially promote the Hainan power grid to enter the 500 kV development stage, which will play an important role in expanding power supply channels and improving the reliability of power supply in Hainan Province.

Hainan Power Grid Corporation actively promotes the deep integration of digital technology and physical power grid, accelerates the in-depth application of next-generation digital technologies such as cloud-big-material-moving smart chain, artificial intelligence, etc. The safe operation of the grid structure improves the disaster response capability of the power grid. According to Yu Delong, deputy general manager of the Strategic Planning Department of Hainan Power Grid Corporation, the project is planned to be completed at the end of the "14th Five-Year Plan". The ring network configuration meets the requirements of Changjiang Nuclear Power Phase II’s mega-kilowatt nuclear power access, and provides reliable grid conditions for future large-scale offshore wind power consumption. It is of great significance to support the construction of one district and one port in Hainan.

According to reports, the preliminary work of the project will start in April 2022. Hainan Power Grid Corporation has invested capable forces, carefully arranged and deployed, and organized design units, scientific research units, and supporting units to undertake efficient coordination. Properly solve the problems of planning coordination and land use adjustment in the selection of substation site and line route, and complete the signing of agreements with relevant parties.
