On June 2, 2023, the Civil Aviation Tibet Autonomous Region Administration held a commencement ceremony for the overall renovation and expansion of the T1 and T2 terminals of Lhasa Gongga Airport, in order to further enhance the major air transportation support capacity of Lhasa Gongga Airport, enhance its international port function, and enhance its image as the capital airport.
This renovation and expansion is a key project determined by the 13th and 14th Five Year Plans of the country and the Party Committee and Government of the Tibet Autonomous Region. It is also an important livelihood project and a powerful measure to actively integrate into the national Belt and Road construction. After the renovation and expansion of the original T1 terminal, it will undertake domestic transportation while also taking into account major transportation support functions. The T2 terminal will be transformed into an international functional area as a whole. After the overall renovation and expansion is completed, a T1/T2 terminal complex of approximately 27000 square meters will be formed, including an international passenger use area of approximately 13700 square meters, a transfer area of 1300 square meters, a domestic passenger use area of 7000 square meters, and a reserved international waiting hall of 5000 square meters. In addition, the layout of transportation facilities in front of the T1 and T2 terminal complexes will be renovated and expanded, with the construction of approximately 28700 square meters of parking lots, 440 square meters of oxygen production rooms, and various supporting facilities. At that time, more convenient services will be provided for passengers.
According to the construction plan, the overall renovation and expansion project of the T1 and T2 terminals of Lhasa Gongga Airport is expected to be completed by mid November 2023, with the structural construction of the T1 terminal renovation and expansion project completed by the end of 2023. The T2 area will be completed for acceptance by the end of June 2024. Editor/Xie Li
