On June 28, 2023, the construction project of the general flood storage area in the Huaihe River basin of Anhui Province will be started at Sunmiao Baozhuang Weir, Xiejiaji District, Huainan City, with a total investment of about 1.758 billion yuan.

The construction project of the general flood storage area in the Huaihe River Basin in Anhui Province is one of the 172 major water conservation and water supply projects determined by the State Council, and also one of the key projects in the "Implementation Plan for Further Harnessing the Huaihe River". The project involves 4 depressions in 9 counties and districts, including Huainan, Hefei, Fuyang, and Suzhou in Anhui Province, with a governance area of 4722 square kilometers. The main tasks include rebuilding two water gates, strengthening embankments, constructing flood control roads at the top of embankments, dredging and excavating flood diversion ditches and drainage ditches, constructing and rebuilding drainage stations and supporting culvert gate projects through embankments. After the completion of the project, the flood control and drainage capacity system of the Baozhuang embankment in the flood storage area will be further improved to ensure the safety of the lives and property of residents in the Baozhuang embankment. This is of great significance for improving the production and living conditions of the local people, ensuring national food security, assisting rural revitalization, and promoting high-quality social and economic development in the region.

It is understood that the project involves 4 general flood storage areas in 9 counties and districts of Huainan, Hefei, Fuyang, and Suzhou, Anhui Province. The main construction content includes reinforcement of 111.26 kilometers of embankments, construction of 125.42 kilometers of embankment top roads and upper embankment roads, etc. The estimated total investment of the project is 1.758 billion yuan, with a total construction period of 24 months.

The construction of general flood storage areas in the Huaihe River Basin in Anhui Province has started. After the completion of the project, it will further improve the flood control and drainage system of the Baozhuang embankment in the flood storage area, ensuring the safety of the lives and property of residents in the Baozhuang embankment.
