Recently, the environmental impact assessment of the Yellow River Guxian Water Control Project was approved by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and significant progress has been made in the preliminary work of the project. Next, the Ministry of Water Resources will actively consult with the National Development and Reform Commission to accelerate the approval of project approval.

The main environmental issues and impacts that the Yellow River Guxian Water Conservancy Hub Project focuses on include seven aspects: firstly, the landscape impact and measures of Hukou Waterfall; 2、 Impact and measures of geological parks; 3、 Surface water environmental impact and measures; 4、 Impact of aquatic organisms and measures taken; 5、 The impact and measures of wetlands in the Xiaobei Main Stream section; 6、 The impact and measures of floodplain wetlands and estuarine wetlands in the lower Yellow River; 7、 Terrestrial ecological impacts and measures.

The Yellow River Guxian Water Conservancy Hub Project is a key backbone project of the Yellow River's water and sediment regulation system, which is clearly planned in important areas such as the "Outline of Ecological Protection and High Quality Development Plan for the Yellow River Basin", "Comprehensive Planning for the Yellow River Basin", and "Flood Control Plan for the Yellow River Basin". It has a strategic position as a connecting link between the past and the future. The project has been included in the list of 172 and 150 major water conservancy projects determined by the State Council, as well as 102 major projects in the National 14th Five Year Plan Outline.

The project is located in the section from Qikou, the northern main stream of the middle reaches of the Yellow River, to Yumenkou. It is 550km away from the Wanjiazhai Water Conservancy Hub and 317km away from the Sanmenxia Water Conservancy Hub, with Jixian County, Shanxi Province on the left bank and Yichuan County, Shaanxi Province on the right bank. The Guxian Water Conservancy Hub Project controls 65% of the total area of the Yellow River Basin, controls 80% of the water volume and 60% of the sand content of the Yellow River. The development task is to focus on flood control and sediment reduction, water and sediment regulation, and take into account comprehensive utilization such as water supply, irrigation, and power generation.

After the completion of the project, it can effectively solve prominent problems such as the incomplete flood control engineering system in the Yellow River Basin, insufficient follow-up power for water and sediment regulation in the Xiaolangdi Reservoir, and insufficient overall water resource allocation capacity. It plays an irreplaceable important role in ensuring that the lower reaches of the Yellow River do not break, the riverbed does not rise, and the river continues to flow, maintaining the healthy life of the Yellow River, and promoting high-quality regional economic and social development.Editor/Ma Xue
