Recently, the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Oman signed a memorandum of cooperation with Oman Petroleum Development Company (PDO), Oman Shell, OQGN, and Oxy in the fields of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) and blue hydrogen development.
This memorandum of understanding aims to establish a professional team to contribute to the development of regulatory and strategic frameworks in relevant fields. This memorandum is part of the government's carbon capture technology and blue hydrogen production initiative, aimed at achieving Oman's energy transformation strategy and helping Oman achieve its net zero emissions target by 2050.
According to the memorandum, in order to facilitate the CCUS and blue hydrogen field projects, it is necessary to form an expert group to conduct a comprehensive technical and economic assessment in Oman, and assist in developing the regulatory framework and strategy required to promote the development of this field. The public and private sectors, academic institutions, and experienced investment and research institutions will participate together.
