Recently, the main project of Datang Tibet Zhala Hydropower Station officially started construction, and the project is equipped with the first set of 500,000-kilowatt high head impact unit, marking a key step in China's scientific and technological research demonstration application of high head, large capacity, impact, deep shaft turbine generator set.

The Datang Tibet Zhala Hydropower Station project is located in the sixth stage of the development of the Yuqu River basin, and uses the 60-kilometer "Ji" character big bend channel to cut and straight to form a water level drop of nearly 700 meters high. For this purpose, the power station adopts the first 500,000-kilowatt high head impact turbine generator set independently developed and manufactured in China. Unlike most of the hybrid hydropower units in the gentle basin, the impact hydropower unit can withstand 7,000 tons of impact per square meter.

Liang Hua, Chief commander of Datang Zara Hydropower Station project construction: The efficiency of our unit has reached the world's advanced level, and the construction of the project will realize the localization of independent intellectual property rights of the whole industrial chain of impact turbines, which will play an important leading and demonstration role in enhancing the development capacity of China's high-drop hydropower resources and realizing the autonomy and control of key core technologies of hydropower equipment.

When completed and put into operation in 2027, the Zara Hydropower Station will generate 3.946 billion KWH of electricity per year, save 1.3 million tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 3.42 million tons per year.Editor/Ma Xue
