Recently, the Hebei Longshan Power Plant's large-scale extraction and energy storage molten salt heat storage and peak shaving flexibility transformation demonstration project has officially started construction.
It is understood that this project is the first major technological innovation demonstration project in China to use molten salt large-scale heat storage to achieve deep peak shaving and peak shaving of units. In March 2023, it was included in the national scientific research support project for clean and efficient utilization of coal.
The project adopts high-temperature molten salt Energy storage technology, and uses the existing units to add a new steam extraction molten salt heat storage system including low-temperature molten salt tanks, heat exchange platforms, high-temperature molten salt tanks and other buildings and structures. When the grid needs deep peak shaving, the surplus steam heat of the boiler can be stored in the heat storage system to realize the decoupling of the boiler and the generator set, so that the units can meet the needs of the grid peak shaving; When the power grid needs to peak load, the heat stored in the heat storage system during peak shaving can be released again, increasing the peak capacity of the generator set.
After the completion of the project, it will not only effectively promote the development of new energy and the transformation of energy structure in Hebei Province, but also provide technical reference for significantly improving the peak shaving capacity of existing coal-fired power units in the country.
