Green and clean nuclear energy is the only way for the world's energy transformation and development. Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said that Turkey is in talks with Russia, China and South Korea on the construction of the country's second and third nuclear power plants, as well as with the United States and the United Kingdom on small reactor (SMR) projects.

Bayraktar said Turkey wanted to speed up the construction of two nuclear power plants at the Sinop and Thrace sites. He stressed that Turkey's energy demand continues to grow, and the current priority is to ensure the security of energy supply, reduce dependence on external resources, while achieving carbon neutrality by 2053. In addition to developing nuclear power, Turkey also plans to expand wind and solar power generation.

The Akkuyu nuclear power plant under construction will consist of four VVER-1200 units, which will be built by Rosatom, the Russian state atomic energy company, and will be fully operational by 2028. Bayraktar said that by the middle of the century, the country's installed nuclear power capacity will exceed 20 GWe(20 million kilowatts), including large and small reactor plants. Editor/Xu Shengpeng
