On the morning of August 8, 2023, the Hami Chongqing ± 800 kV ultra-high voltage DC project of State Grid Corporation of China officially began construction. As the first DC ultra-high voltage project to be located in Chongqing, its construction also means that Chongqing will have the largest capacity of power transmission highway, which can significantly enhance the power supply capacity and help Chongqing accelerate the construction of a new grid pattern.
Project Overview
The Hami Chongqing project starts from the Balikun Converter Station in Hami City, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and ends at the Yubei Converter Station in Yubei District, Chongqing. The transmission capacity is 8 million kilowatts, and the project investment is 28.6 billion yuan. Passing through five provinces (autonomous regions and cities) of Xinjiang, Gansu, Shaanxi, Sichuan, and Chongqing, the total length of the DC line is 2290 kilometers, with 62.4 kilometers within Chongqing and 59.5 kilometers of the receiving grounding electrode line. After the completion of this project, Xinjiang will form three ultra-high voltage direct current transmission channels, namely from Hami to Zhengzhou, from Zhundong to Wannan, and from Hami to Chongqing, continuously transmitting electricity to central, eastern, and southwestern regions.
The Hami Chongqing project is also one of the first batch of large-scale wind power and photovoltaic base transmission projects in the country. The project connects 10.2 million kilowatts of supporting new energy such as wind power, photovoltaic power, and solar thermal power, and 4 million kilowatts of supporting coal-fired power. After the project is put into operation, it will further optimize the energy supply pattern in Chongqing.Editor/Ma Xue
