On March 2, 2024, the People's Committee of Yee On Province in Vietnam announced that it had officially approved Vietnam Airport Corporation to begin the expansion and renovation project of Rong City Airport. This decision marks a new stage of development for Rongshi Airport, laying a solid foundation for its position in the regional and even international aviation industry.
Since its official opening at the end of 2003, Rongshi Airport has carried the expectations and trust of domestic and foreign passengers. At present, the airport operates 9 domestic routes and 1 international route (Rongshi Taiwan, China), with an annual designed passenger throughput of 2.75 million person times. The runway has a length of 2400 meters and a width of 45 meters, providing a solid foundation for aircraft takeoff and landing.
However, with the rapid development of the aviation industry and the increasing demand for passengers, the infrastructure of Rongshi Airport has become inadequate. The existing six aprons are tight during peak hours for aircraft entering and exiting the port, resulting in incoming aircraft often needing to hover in the air and wait for a spot. In addition, the cracking problem of asphalt on airport runways in July last year posed significant challenges to airport operations. That incident forced the airport to close for nearly 16 hours, causing more than 20 flights to be delayed and causing considerable inconvenience to passengers and airlines.
To address these challenges, Vietnam Airlines decided to carry out large-scale expansion and renovation of Rongshi Airport. The total expected investment for this project is approximately 233.6 billion Vietnamese dong, equivalent to approximately 9.802 million US dollars. All investment will be borne by Vietnam Airlines, demonstrating its firm determination to improve airport facilities and optimize passenger experience.
According to the plan, the expansion and renovation project will build three new aprons to meet the growing demand for flights. At the same time, new terminals and radar stations will be constructed to enhance the operational efficiency and safety of the airport. In addition, the existing apron will be fully renovated to ensure its continued effectiveness in the new operating environment. The entire project schedule is 12 months, striving to provide passengers with a more comfortable and convenient air travel experience in a short period of time.Editor/Cheng Liting
