Haikou Meilan International Airport announced on the 10th that it has officially opened an international cargo route from Haikou to Bournemouth, marking the birth of Hainan's first international cargo route to the UK.
It is reported that the A340-600 aircraft, which took off from Bournemouth International Airport in the UK, arrived in Haikou on March 9th. The aircraft loaded 51 tons of cargo from Meilan Airport on March 10th and flew to Bournemouth International Airport in the UK.
This newly opened international cargo route is operated by European Cargo Airlines in the UK, which mainly transports types of goods including e-commerce cargo and general cargo. After the successful execution of the first flight, the route will operate three flights per week according to the plan.
As of 2024, Meilan Airport has successfully operated three international freight routes, namely Haikou to Paris, Incheon to Haikou to Singapore, and Haikou to Bournemouth. Through these routes, Meilan Airport has connected four international freight destinations and initially established an international freight route network centered around Haikou, radiating to Europe, Northeast Asia, and Southeast Asia.
